The Philips Norelco Do-It-Yourself is a versatile product that is the recipient of our top reviews. This product offers three different attachments to get the exact haircut you need, including a balding attachment. Additionally, this product features 14 haircut settings, and it will run for nearly an hour on a single battery charge. Furthermore, this product features a two-year warranty, one of the longest we saw on an electric head shaving product.
Performance
This electric head shaver is unlike many of the other products in our lineup. The device features a 180-degree rotating head so you can easily reach all areas of your head, including behind the head and ears. Three different attachments are available with this product, including a head shaving tool.
Located on the rotating head is a dial where you can choose between 14 different length settings. These settings will not make much of a difference if you only use the bald shaving tool attachment. However, if you need to trim the hair before shaving your head or if you wish to simply cut and trim your facial hair, this is an excellent tool.
When we put the balding tool to the test, we found it to be an average electric shaver. It provides a fairly smooth shave but we found that you must press hard to get any type of results, and it takes a significant amount of time to shave your head. Additionally, it took our testers eight to 12 passes in one area to get that desired smooth shave.
You can use this device with or without a power cord. When using the device cordless, you can receive up to 60 minutes of power on a single battery charge. Additionally, it takes only 60 minutes to recharge the device. This is one of the shorter time periods for charging the battery. Many similar products require several hours and may even need to be charged overnight before they are fully powered.
This electric head shaver can cut facial hair. However, it is not recommended to use this device to cut any type of wet hair. This is particularly important if you use the guide combs to cut long hair with this device.
Design
The electric shaver attachment uses foil technology to shave your head. The foil gives you a close cut and helps reduce redness and irritation that can result from using a manual razor.
One standout feature of this product is its easy cleaning and maintenance. You can easily wash the product under the tap to clean all stray hairs. You do not have to regularly use cleaning oil and a brush to clean this Philips product, which we were pleased to see.
Furthermore, this product is designed so you can easily hold and control its use. The handle features a rubber grip for easy holding, particularly for long periods of time. There is also a battery indicator light located on the product that will glow a white light when the battery is fully charged and will begin to blink orange when there are only 10 minutes left of power.
This electric razor is covered for two years under a manufacturer’s warranty. This is one of the longest warranties we saw on this type of product, as many similar products are only covered for one year or less.
Accessories
There are a handful of accessories included with this product. Besides the head shaving attachment, there are two separate guide combs that help you cut different lengths. The comb lengths help you cut hair from 1 mm to 15mm. This variety is excellent if you have facial hair that you wish to only trim or cut.
In addition to the guide combs, there is a storage case to hold the product and its included accessories. However, there is no charging stand, which would have been a nice addition and would allow you to easily recharge the device.
